What is 'Pimentel' Raising?  This raising technique was introduced by our Raisng instructor, Bonnie McKenna Harvey.  Dave Pimentel was her professor at ASU who had researched and invented hammers and stakes made of a special kind of plastic.

Item #: PRHS

Traditionally, to make a bowl shape metalsmiths, tinkers and blacksmiths would hammer (sink) a bowl into a round shaped hole, usually in a tree stump. The plastic stake, hammer and the hammering technique used in the Pimentel method of raising allows the metal to be shaped faster. The plastic "lubricates" the metal and lets it slip. Instead of sinking and thinning the metal, you are actually raising the metal, compressing it and making it thicker.
