Typically, Repousse tools (such as liners) are made from square stock to give more control of the tool when rounding corners, etc. Our round stock tools are lightly flattened on four sides about a third of the way up from the working end, and the edges are smoothed. This gives great finger control to a round tool, very smooth to the touch, and much more comfortable then square tools. There are only a few tools that require us to use square stock and on those the edges are filed down to a smooth finish for comfort.
