In the Navy, a jet fighter is termed a “weapons platform”. The Sahinler Air Hammer is designed as a tool platform. It’s +8” stroke, 12” throat ( SM50), instantly interchangeable die setup and sensitive throttle control combine to produce an unbeatable force. Put yourself in control of that steel. The Sahinler SM-50, SM-60 and SM-34 air hammers are self contained forging hammers designed for use in blacksmith shops, welding and fabricating plants, maintenance facilities and schools. Bladesmiths will find the Sahinler SM-50, SM-60 and SM-34 the best choices for Damascus work. Interchangeable upper and lower dies allow the user to form hot metal into an infinite variety of shapes. The basic machine comes standard with flat dies, 2.375" x 4.75". Examples of optional dies include radius and flat combinations and radius, flat and fuller combos. Open faced mold dies can also be used, such as leaf and scroll end.
The versatility of the Sahinler line continues to shine through with our base system. The idea behind the base is simple. You want to have a machine that stays put when you’re using it, but is easily moveable when it’s time. The fabricated steel base, which stands 10 inches high, floats on 5 neoprene strips that interface the steel with your concrete floor. A floor-bolted flange at the front prevents the machine from walking. The steel gives a much better return action than wood and the base has forklift slots for easy transport.

Self Contained Air Supply
What exactly does self contained mean? Instead of having a noisy, expensive, high pressure, high maintenance reciprocating air compressor to provide the air-motive force, Sahinler Air Hammers use a low pressure, high volume system completely contained and integral to the machine. The motor drives a large flywheel via notched v-belts. The flywheel is connected via a pitman bearing and connecting rod to the rear piston. Basically, as the rear piston is pushed up, the front piston can come down, it's depth of stroke determined by the position of the main valve, which is operated by the foot control. The result is excellent control, always enough air, less noise, greater reliability and a more productive and satisfying hammering experience.
Unmatched Versatility
The nature of air hammers provides a versatility unmatched by any other type of hammer. A wide range of stock sizes can be worked interchangeably. There are no springs or arms to adjust when going from wide to flat. Square bar up to 2" x 2" is readily worked and larger sizes are possible. Power isn't everything, though, and the SM-34, SM-50 and SM-60 are also sensitive guys capable of light planishing blows or tapering .25" rounds. The self adjusting ram makes working different sizes and thicknesses of material a breeze. This hammer has been worked 1/2 x 6 inches edgewise ( yes, even at 6 inches the ram stiill has enough power to move the metal!), then flopped 90 degrees to the 1/2” thickness and, by opening the throttle slightly via the treadle, hammered the thin way. Then back again to the fat way. Instantly. This feature not only facilitates radical size variations but is fantastic when using tools between the dies. Hand set tools, spring tools, die tools-the possibilities are truly endless.
High Efficiency American Electrical System
The heart of any machine is its electrical system. All of Sahinlers have state of the art high efficiency American made motors: single phase motors by Baldor and three phase motors by General Electric. On the SM50 these are 10 hp, with plenty of reserve power.
Electric Starter
For safety and convenience all Sahinler Air Hammers sold by Pieh Tool Company, Inc. and Powerhammers, LLC are equipped with high quality Siemens electromagnetic starters with pushbutton controls. Once the motor is running the bypass lever, seen on the left, is moved from the rear position ( A) to the forward position (B). This sends air to the front piston (ram) and begins the "tupping" or idling of the front piston. Operation of the ram is then achieved via the foot throttle. To shut down the procedure is reversed, returning the bypass lever to position A, then stopping the motor.

Our warranty covers defective parts for a period of 1 year. We keep a good supply of parts on hand and many are off the shelf standards, such as the SKF bearings.
Specifications
Foundation Requirements... The SM-34, SM-50 and SM-60 need a base of at least 9" height to sit on. This allows for foot throttle travel and raises the lower die to the proper working height. The best arrangement is a steel base, although wood timbers will work in a pinch. Concrete is not recommended for this part. The floor upon which the hammer and base sit can either be dirt, 6" reinforced concrete or, the best, a separate pad, 36" x 72" x 24" deep, which is isolated from the existing slab and poured flush with the floor.

To help keep our prices low, we normally do not take credit cards for the hammers themselves. If this is your only option, please be aware that the price on our site has been discounted for the cash payment scenario. Expect to add back 3% for credit card payments.
Shipping
The price of the hammers is FOB Arlington, TN. We will obtain multiple freight quotes and help determine the least expensive carrier to bring the hammer to your shop. We will include these freight charges on your invoice. It is recommended to have a forklift available for unloading the hammer and installing it in your shop. Rental lifts are easily obtained for a few hundred dollars and will make the arrival of your new pride and joy painless and quick. Accessorial charges are your responsibilty. Be sure to let us know if you require a lift gate at the delivery location. We also must know if the delivery location is residential or commercial. (Extra fees will apply to residential deliveries). You also have the option of picking up your shipment at the freight terminal. This can be a worthwhile savings. After payment is received, the hammer will be shipped immediately. We will provide you with the shipments tracking number at this time. From Arlington it usually takes 2 days to the east coast, 3-4 to the west coast.
