What is 'Pimentel' Raising? This raising technique was invented by our Raisng instructor, Bonnies McKenna Harvey's teacher, Dave Pimentel. Dave was a professor at ASU who researched and invented hammers and stakes made of a special kind of plastic which you will use. Traditionally, to make a bowl shape metalsmiths, tinkers and blacksmiths would hammer (sink) a bowl into a round shaped hole, usually in a tree stump. The plastic stake, hammer and the hammering technique used in the Pimentel method of raising allows the metal to be shaped faster. The plastic "lubricates" the metal and lets it slip. Instead of sinking and thinning the metal, you are actually raising the metal, compressing it and making it thicker. This material, UHMB (Ultrahigh Molecular Weight Polyethylene), is much better than Delrin or
metal and is easier on your joints. This nonporous material won't mar and is easy to clean.
