Patterson
Proud Looks and Brave Attire
Of all the riches of the sixteenth-century European nobleman, none spoke more powerfully of his heroism, wealth, and taste than his armor, clothing, and weapons. Drawing on the Victoria and Albert Museum’s popular arms and armor collection—which includes the armor of such notables as Henry IV of France and Philip III of Spain--Angus Patterson looks at the suits designed to kill, protect, and impress. Here are parade suits, lavishly embossed and gilded, decorated with plumes of ostrich feathers, and draped with colorful silk sashes, as well as swords, daggers, pistols, and gunpowder flasks slung from elaborate belts. Paintings, sculpture, and beautiful new photographs—including many close-up details—bring this very particular aspect of Medieval and Renaissance fashion to life.

Simply defined, lampwork is the craft of shaping glass in a torch flame. In these pages feast your eyes upon creations by nearly a hundred of today's best lampwork artists, from the United States and around the globe. A historical introduction, demonstration sequences by featured artists, and a glossary of lampwork terminology round out this indispensable guide to lampworked glass.
This is a lavishly illustrated showcase edited by Bandhu Dunham, one of the founding members of the modern movement of artistic lampworkers. In ancient times, the glass was melted over the flame of an oil or paraffin lamp, hence the traditional name. In the last 20 years, lampworking has evolved into a thriving branch of the Studio Glass movement. Everything from tiny beads and marbles, to paperweights to huge architectural installations can be and is made using lampwork methods. This "coffee table" book showcases the work of established and emerging artists in the lampwork field, from the United States and around the globe.

This first volume of the 2 volumes is a unique publication for its usefulness and ample coverage of this specific kind of work. It is an excellent sourcebook for smiths who are looking for ideas on producing attractive, but not highly detailed or involved gates and railings, of a more more modern look and design. The gates and railings in this first volume can be made by any experienced smith.
The book is imported from Italy and all work shown is Italian. Text is in Italian only but the importance of this book lies in the photos, not the text. If you make wrought iron gates, fences and railings, you'll find this book useful.
